Soccer for dummies, my style. (Note that I possess minimal knowledge with regards to the 'art' of playing soccer).
First, grab a spherical object. Cylinders, cuboids and pyramids are out of the question, but worth a try. Next, find something to kick it into. Well, the wider the structure of the 'goalpost' is, the easier the game due to several obvious reasons. For a greater challenge, get a narrower region to kick the spherical object into. Here's the trick, someone from the opposing team has to place his body in grave danger by guarding this 'goalpost' with solely his body. Hence make sure the spherical object has no sharp or jaggered edges to ensure that the human being does not have to taken away on a stretcher.
So far so good? Now, the tricky bit is the movement of this circular object. Hands are out of the question, so if you'd like to look stylish while playing soccer, tuck your hands in your pockets. It is the emerging style. Feet can be used, don't worry. Well, if you're not too worried about brain damage, use the back of your head or your forehead. For those without heart problems, use your chest by all means. Otherwise, feet work fine. Next step - how many men are required to chase this spherical object and pass it around before shooting it into the 'goalpost'? 11 in total, per team. Oh keep some players on standby. Accidents happen more often than not.
Oh yes, referees are a necessity. They like to keep two coloured cards in their pockets. Red and yellow. (No, they're not all Spanish) They wave the red card if they would rather you get off the field while yellow serves as a warning. Watch your tongue because vulgarities can get you a yellow card or even a red card. Oh and if you like doing chokeslams or headbutts on people, you'll be better off in a wrestling ring.
Soccer politics. Something that churns out millions in terms of the press. So if you're not in for some sweaty action, pick up that typewriter and churn out a story on soccer politics and sell it to tabloids. Likely to get you hordes of cash, if you're really professional.
Scoring. Some people like to kick the spherical object in various arrangements around the field for a bulk of the time and then score a goal whereas others prefer kicking the spherical objects into the crowd. There are some, of course, who rather get to the point and score from one end of the field to the other. Of course, that is only possible if all the players are asleep on the field apart from the one delivering the shot.
So, as you can see, soccer is not all that complicated after all. Go and grab your spherical object and a couple of people today!

It feels like a million years have passed since I last updated my blog. So here goes. A great deal of events have transpired since I last blogged, so exact details and minor events have sort of ebbed away from my memory cells, unfortunately. After all, dwelling on in the past only curbs progress in life. Anyway, uni life has been tiring with a capital T. But the people I've met so far have been like rainbows after a downpour and hey my friends mean a great deal to me :)Are human beings every fully satisfied in life? I doubt it. I think it takes a great deal for an ordinary human being to actually take a step back and say "hey, I am so satisfied with life day in and out and there is nothing else I want." Probably only monks or priests have been even close to attaining such a mentality. It is hard, definitely. But I feel satisfaction with even the tiniest of events in life leads one to enjoy life to the ultimate. It is completely normal to have desires and constant needs, but one thing's for sure - it is not entirely healthy. People tend to get so obsessed with continually being better than they are that they begin to overlook various things in life. The minute details that should matter. Time gets in the way of a lot of things - relationships, religion and even morals. Appreciation for the most microscopic of things in life is the way one can be truly happy, I believe and I shall live by that :)Anyway, enough of random ranting. Wow. November has arrived. Time undoubtedly flies. In due time, one semester of uni will be over! All I'm doing is hoping for the best with regards to the final exams, which will be followed shortly by freedomm! Oh and my driving practical test too, which falls on the 12th of December. Anyone wanting to provide any form of support are welcomed to come down! Bring along your pom poms, banners or loudspeakers as well :) oh wait, scratch the last one out. Might cause me to mount a kerb or something. Haha. Not good. Oh and my birthday's coming upp! Now there's a reason to smile :) and I'm so darn addicted to Grey's Anatomy. At season 4, following the US broadcast. Just cannot get enough of that stuff. Alright, that's about it for now. Till next time, cheers and God bless! :)

The time has come, alas! One week of university has gone by and one thing I can say for sure is that it is both physically and mentally draining. But I guess in a way, I can get my long due exercise from walking uphill and down and of course, climbing the gazillions of stairs which seem to punctuate every few steps like full-stops or commas. Apart from all that, there's the element of excitement even though everything is still relatively foreign to my eyes and senses. I wait with bated breath for what's to happen. =)

Sometimes I feel as though in spite of having a torch clutched in my hand, I am engulfed in darkness. In spite of it being daytime, I feel swamped by nightfall. The are many instances in life where we grope around in the darkness to find our way out onto sunlit grounds. This feels like one of those instances.

No prizes for guessing who's back from a long blogging hiatus. Well, as usual, my slightly porous memory is not able to hold in the whole package of all that has transpired since I last blogged. Hence, I shall divulge whatever that is clinging on for dear life onto my memory cells. (How inaccurate biologically speaking. But hey, you get my message). And in any case, I am not that much of a goldfish (goldfishes have a 3 second memory span, for all those who are oblivious of the fact). In any case, I would put a red thumbtack on last Sunday, the 29th of July. The day I bought my very first laptop! Oh yes, you heard it right. I am now the proud owner of a Lenovo laptop with fingerprint identification, a sleek black keyboard and silver exteriors. =) It is though, a tad on the heavier side at 2.3kg. Ah well. You win some, you lose some. It was a good deal though. Below $2K. The point is - I am more than satisfied.Another thumbtack should be set upon today. As of today, I am officially an undergraduate student at NUS. Today was my official registration cum matriculation day. Well, though still slightly apprehensive about the whole situation, I am willing to embrace the whole idea of uni life slowly but surely. But of course, loads of adjustment is due. But I'm undeniably quite excited! =)All right, I am getting rather lazy to type any further and so I shall end here for now. Cheers! =)

We celebrated shariff's birthday yesterday at a cosy room above an egyptian cum middle eastern restaurant - Amirah's Grill Restaurant & Cafe. Was supposed to be a mini surprise party and she was surprised to quite some extent. Haha. Anyway, we had a blast!
Photos!
scanning the menu intently (well, almost everyone)
us! (the lighting's pretty bad though)
The gorgeous blackforest cake =)
And her classic expression.
Didn't manage to capture many photos. But the photos above sum it up, pretty much. In any case, happy 19th birthday shariff! =)

-Uses a feather duster to dust away the cobwebs- Now that spring cleaning of my blog is done, I shall start off proper. Anyway, loads has transpired since I last blogged. So much so that I cannot possibly remember every single event in great detail thanks to my slightly porous memory. In any case, I will be quitting my job soon so that I can enjoy long siestas on sunny afternoons and get out of my bed way past the crack of dawn. (I believe depriving a human being of sleep should be made against the law). On top of that, I will be able to thoroughly enjoy what is left of my holidays before uni starts, not that I haven't already been enjoying myself. But yeah, you get the picture. Besides, there's undeniably uni stuff to settle here and there and hey, people to catch up with.
First up, driving. I have managed to master most of the courses within the driving circuit and have been able to drive on the roads without colliding into a tree or lampost. So congratulations to myself. Haha. Well, my test date is on the 24th of September, so I have more than enough time to hone my skills. I totally despise the crank course! Those who are learning or are drivers will be able to empathize with me, I'm sure. Those who do not fall into those two categories, just take my word for it! =) ooh and parallel parking is fun! It's supposed to be one of the more difficult bits of the circuit but I enjoy it. Moving off the slope is quite fun too! Even though it involves loads of coordination of the gear, clutch, handbrake and accelerator. But hey, when you get the hang of it, it isn't half as scary as it sounds. =)
Random updates: Delifrance buffet at work last week (GLORIOUS!) (see below). Watched the National Day Parade full-dress rehearsal (where I felt cheated when we were given plastic bags with unimportant stuff and there were no fireworks! hmph!). There are loads more updates which have slipped out of my memory!
Delifrance buffet! =)
And boy do I feel fat! In any case, that's about it for now. Cheers!

*Phew* I am finally able to breathe normally once again. This week has been hectic. Work, shopping, driving lessons and what not. But hey, I have gotten used to closely packed schedules. Now that uni will be starting soon, that is surely going to come in handy. I definitely cannot wait for uni to start. I actually miss the lectures and the whole package of an instituiton. Well, some part of me enjoys the life I have currently, devoid of lecture notes and such and not being restrained by a particular schedule but at the same time, the rest of me thinks otherwise. Ah well. But for now, I shall make the most of this period of break which we may not relish as much later on in the year. Anyway, I got my mom a lovely cooking book with about 100 natural remedies for all sorts of illnesses as her birthday present. Really nifty and she loved it. In any case, happy birthday mom! =) All right, that's about it for now. Time for a lovely seista on this wonderful sunday afternoon. Cheers!

Watched Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End with Fai, Wara and Hanisah last Wednesday. The sneak preview! =) Took a half day off for that glorious treat. It is most definitely a MUST WATCH! Captain Jack Sparrow is such an entertaining creature and Will is of course, gorgeous with a capital G. I wouldn't mind watching the movie a second time. Well, if my ticket is paid for by someone else, of course. Hehe. For the sake of everyone out there who has not watched the movie as of yet, I shall not divulge anything related to it. So no spoilers here, not to worry. But watch it as soon as possible!Met my colleagues for a shopping escapade yesterday, after a talk at NUS early in the morning. A little too early for my liking, especially since it was a Saturday. Hehe. Oh well. Anyway, bought a couple of things that I have been wanting for a long long time. That includes a salvatore ferragamo perfume, which I bagged at less than half price! I am SO pleased with that purchase. =) Making worth-it buys always makes my day!Random happenings not mentioned above: Shariff offically has one less adult tooth than normal adult homosapiens. Hanisah is ticklish absolutely everywhere, even on her head (on top of her tudung, mind you). Fai has been bathing extremely late and has been having excess sleep thanks to her one week of hiatus from work. Wara, I just discovered, has 4 less adult teeth. There are billions more updates regarding my other friends, but laziness is taking over my fingers. Hehe. I have no idea as to what I would do without my darlings =) When we fail at something in life, it only means God has a better idea. I believe so.

Random updates! =)Went shopping with mommy dearest today. Decided to treat her to a little something seeing as tomorrow is mother's day. Bought her lovely scholl slippers =) I love to see a smile on her face. In fact, seeing everyone I care about smile lights up my heart. Nevertheless, I think nothing I do would be able to match up to what my mom has done for me. I love and treasure her ever so much. All right, I shall change the topic before I start tearing while typing. Me and sentimental self. Hehe. Anyway, my brother finally got his drum set today! Well, he has been wanting it for eons and now he finally has a white pearl 6-piece drum set (with mufflers, of course). =) Last Thursday, being pay day, my darlings and I decided to take a half-day and meet up with the rest of the gang to while the afternoon away together like the good ol' days. We gorged, most definitely and had a whale of a time. Boy do we know how to enjoy ourselves to the bones. Haha. I have no idea as to what I would do without these nutcases! =) Love them to bits and pieces (and molecules). Hehe.Well, it does seem as though time is flying by. I feel old and even apprehensive, somewhat. I guess taking it a step at a time is the way to go! Anyway, this is it for now. Cheers! =)

There are points in life where one is brought to stages which are similar to entering rooms with multiple doors leading to eventually other doors and rooms. But how do we pick the right door? No one knows.

Went down to singapore expo today for a mega book warehouse sale. I simply had to! Bought 4 novels for $15! I feel so accomplished. =) Ah, I feel old. I owe this to the conversation I had with my primary school tutee while giving tuition today.tutee: teacher, is ratio a hard topic?me: well, it depends. Some find it easy, some find it hard. You might find it easy!tutee: do you find it hard?me: right now? No, of course not. tutee: did you find it hard when you were of my age?me: erm.. maybe?Gosh! I really do not remember! Primary school was more than eons back! I feel old. Oh and while I was browsing through novels at the sale, I overheard a conversation between two girls who looked like they were from secondary school. One of them pointed at a row of novels and said "those are such boring adult books. My elder brother reads them," while the other claimed they were pretty alright. I really do feel old. That isn't necessarily a bad thing I guess. It's just that sometimes I wish I could bite into cotton candy at a funfair or something with not a single ounce of worry in my system. But hey, this is life.
Anyway, the movie Patch Adams (above) is a must watch. It is based on a true life account. One of the most inspiring and touching movies I have watched in my entire lifetime. Brought me to tears. For those who have yet to watch the movie, do make it a point to watch it at least once in your lifetime. It is most definitely worth it even if the movie's practically a decade old.Anyway, this is it for now. Cheers! =)

Took my Final Theory Test for driving yesterday at Comfort Driving Centre. I PASSED! =) Now that I am done with the theory tests, I can focus on learning the practical bit of driving. So much to do and so little time. Ah, this is life I guess.Have you ever had thoughts that spin around in your brain and no matter how hard you try you simply cannot reach a sound conclusion? Questions like what is beyond the universe. There could very well be another universe out there, comprising a planet like earth, with slightly modified human beings. If so, do they have food outlets like Macs or KFC over there? Do these people drive around in harley davidsons or ferraris? Do they have democracy or any political establishments over there? And if there is another universe out there, what is beyond the entire cluster of universes? What is there beyond it all? Loads of questions but minimal or no answers. Quite a thought. For now, we should just enjoy life because we live life once. =)Time is the most valuable coin in your life. You and you alone will determine how that coin is spent. Be careful that you don't let other people spend it for you. ~ John Dryden

Never knew Fish&Co has a special rap for customers if they dine there on their birthdays. They issue lit sparkly fire crackers too and not to forget, you get a scoop of ice cream and a polaroid picture of yourself absolutely free-of-charge. Oh and they use a gong-like structure to announce to the entire of the restaurant that they'll be celebrating a birthday. Some of my colleagues and I got to witness this whole procession occurring before our very eyes thanks to Genevieve, whose birthday falls on the day after April Fool's Day. Hehe. Apart from that, I tasted swordfish collar for the very first time in my life today and hey, it doesn't taste as bad as it sounds after all. Quite nice. Before today, I was ignorant about the fact that people actually eat swordfishes. But now that I have come to think of it, human beings these days eat anything that moves. Ah well. I guess tastebuds have evolved over the years.
Anyway, that is about it for now. Cheers! =)

We finally had scrumptious satay after work today! It was at some hawker centre by the name of 'Teh Tarik' near Paya Lebar. I am satisfied for now, until yet another craving takes form. Haha. I really need to go for a long distance run or something. At the rate I am going, probably to Johor Bahru, Malaysia and back. Someday I shall make that a reality. Someday. For now, I gorge (with calculated risks). Hehe. =)
Hanisah is so hilarious. Out of the blue, a cat arrives in front of us. Her pupils dilate and she exclaims "oh my god! TIGER!" and walks past as briskly as possible. Phobia does lots of things to people. I shall spare the details. Hehe. Speaking of phobias, I do not like the presence of moths, thank you very much. Especially those gargantuan ones. My grandma says if I were operating on someone (if I get into medicine in university, that is), I would probably cut the wrong vein or something if a moth were to fly into the operation theatre. Hmph! Haha.
Anyway, that wraps up this post. Till next time, cheers! =)

And so, fai has a sudden liking for photocopying. Or rather, the person who constantly hogs the photocopying machine at work. So, I told her instead of taking a neoprint with ahem, she should just photocopy both his and her face using the photocopying machine or something. Haha. Ahem's face would just appear a little more umm dotted. Anyway, there are a whole load of nutty tax payers out there and this I can say with full confidence. Some (zorro wannabes) draw huge 'Z's on this forms instead of inserting zeros while others draw tiny zeros in every single square they see. Humour exists in abundance at work, consequently. Hehe. I suddenly have a craving for satay.

This is so frustrating. I think blogger.com has something against me. Everytime I wish to update my blog, I have to go through a long procedure of creating a new blog just in order to reach my dashboard and use my old blog since for some reason it refuses to let me sign in the normal way. Hmph!Anyway, somehow it feels as though time is whisking by too fast for my liking. I hardly have time to catch my breath or stop and smell the roses (not that I have a plantation of roses anyway though that would be nice). Maybe it's due to the fact that my activities have become relatively standard. I guess this is what happens when you start working. But in any case, work gets really fun thanks to my wonderful and nutty colleagues. =) We start blabbering about absolutely everything under the sun, even if the issue's far from making any sense at all. Like for instance, we believe all guys are comparable to creatures from the sea. There are some who are sharks, some who are phytoplankton or algae and some who are ikan bilis. Haha. Well, that is, after all how one can enjoy the simple things in life. =)All that aside, I met up with a few of my classmates last Thursday for dinner at some restaurant by the name of Memoirs. The food portions were HUMONGOUS. I think one needs approximately 4 stomachs to stomach all that. In that case, the food was fit for a cow. Hehe. Anyway, it was Alon's treat for all of us =) Thank you Alon, once again. Speaking of food, I am in dire need of exercise. I really am. I think the last time I took on a run of more than 3km was months ago. At this rate, I will very soon start resembling the man on the Michelin company logo. And THAT would definitely not be a good sight at all. Anyway, that is about it for now. Cheers and have a great day! =)

For some unfathomable reason, I could not log into my blogger account, which explains my absence for quite some time. BUT miracles do happen and I managed to log back in =) phew.ANYWAY, loads has transpired since I last blogged. First and foremost, I have gotten a job at IRAS. The tax department has the weirdest impacts on you. Trust me. Relatively sane people go nuts. Haha. But I have wonderful colleagues and of course, fai next to me to keep me company. While hanisah and shariff have computer screens before their eyes, fai and I have a beautiful white wall. Haha. Looking at the positive side of things really helps. =) Alright, I am too drained of energy to blog any further so till next time, cheers!Whether you think you can or think you can't, you are right. - Henry Ford. I shall now attempt to dust the cobwebs on this blog, armed with a feather duster and of course, a keyboard. =)Brief updates - I passed my basic theory test for driving and have a provisional driving license, which means I am qualified to hit the roads with an L plate. Soon enough, there will be an additional threat to road users. Hehe. Am quite excited to start my practical lessons, actually. Apart from that, I have been enjoying the simple things in life, so to speak. Met up with my darlings on Valentine's Day. Had a class dinner last Friday. Ate at some noodles restaurant which provided humongous ladles to feast with. Had ice cream at Swensen's thereafter. I am officially in love with Banana Crumble! It is GLORIOUS and might I add, extremely filling. Okay, now the guilt comes in. Oh the guilt. The unbearable guilt. I am in dire need of exercise! Flabs galore. At this rate, I might even end up like that 'woman' in the movie Norbit. *gasp and shudder* I am NOT going to let that happen. Nope. Not at all. I shall go for a long distance (i.e. >5km) run today. Yes, I shall. Cheers!

Am officially sleep-deprived. This is prior to a week long attachment at the Singapore General Hospital, especially since I did a night shift from yesterday till today morning. But on the whole, if I were to say it was an enriching experience, that would most definitely be an understatement. Was attached to the Accident and Emergency department, which means I got to witness the frontline cases or what you could refer to as the worst possible scenerios. Managed to view a whole range of cases from cardiac arrests and strokes to collapsed lungs and dislocated limbs. Even got to see patients with shattered bones, internal bleeding, parkinson's disease and many others involved in major accidents and several assault cases. There were a few cases where the doctors had to perform CPR, give electric shocks and various drugs to patients but were unable to save them. It is quite remarkable how doctors handle all this without a flinch. They even find time to crack jokes while pulling and swinging dislocated arms back into their sockets. Haha. Quite interesting, I must say. Also got to enter the Operation Theatre to watch patients being stitched up and the like. Oh and one of the doctors even let me prepare drips and give injections and insert an IV tube into a patient's vein! I was quite taken aback when he merely gave me instructions and asked me to try it out myself. On the whole, it was an experience I will never forget. That is about it for now. Cheers! =)

HAPPY NEW YEAR! =)2006 has most definitely been a year packed with happenings of all shapes and sizes. It has been a year comprising both successes and minor setbacks. But overall, it was a wonderful year! I will forever commemorate a large deal of events. Every small event from sleeping at the concourse stage with classmates between lessons to long hours of guitar practice will forever be remembered. It is small things and happenings like these that colour one's life even though one does not realise it till they are over. Very true, don't you think so? Every single moment spent in VJ will be held dear to me. The friendship forged, the silly things we did and even the funky canteen vendors have been embedded in my memory space up there and shall always be treasured deeply. Undeniably, nothing would have been the same without my darling classmates! Anyway, the year has definitely been an eventful one, both academically and in various other aspects. There are simply too many things to mention in honour of my class and VJ as a whole so I shall sum it all up in one word - FABULOUS. =)I look forward to the surprises 2007 has instore for me.

They say life is a box of chocolates - you never know what you are getting next. How true. Sometimes you reach in there and get a piece of chocolate you have always wanted. Dark. Delicate. Creamy. Interiors filled with fudge. Crunchy exteriors. Perfect. And then the thought hits you hard at the back of your head. This bliss is temporary. In a few moments, this very piece of chocolate that you hold between your thumb and your index finger is going to be reduced to the molecular state in your alimentary canal. It is no longer going to be in that same perfect condition you saw it in a while back. And then with a heavy but hopeful heart you reach into the box and draw another piece. You examine it and it stares back. This is not what you hoped for. This is far from perfection. Not the kind you are used to. A foreign flavour. A foreign appearance. A foreign colour. But somehow you place it on your tongue grudgingly and consume it. This is indeed very comparable to life, don't you think so? We do not always get what we desire in life. Joyous moments come and go and the same goes for bad times. Everything is balanced out. In layman terms, you win some and you lose some. But the only way you can relish life is accept everything thrown at you without losing your calm. Enjoy every bit of chocolate within that box. =)

Tis the season of umbrellas. Stop already. I have had enough of this intermittent downpour. Has been raining on and off for a week now. It makes me wonder what the state of VJC must be like at this very moment (for ignoramuses, it is one of the most flood-prone areas in singapore, trust me). I can picture being greeted by knee-deep murky water beyond the gate, with tables, chairs, benches and the like, floating about. Hmm.Anyway, met up with a few of my classmates last Sunday. Had lunch at newyorknewyork - where they sell 8 inch burgers! How caucasians manage to down so much, I will never understand. Perhaps they have stomachs with expandibility beyond that of asian stomachs. Hmm. Also made candy floss there. I felt like I was a surgeon-in-the-training hovering over a patient in the operation theatre when the man giving instructions said things like "now slowly, carefully.. don't drop it (the stick).. keep it steady.. ooh.. almost there.." in a low, slow voice. Haha. Alright, I shall stop this random rambling for now. Merry belated christmas and have a great day! =)

Hope - something that almost every human being thrives on. It could be a young child hoping for an automated toy aeroplane or an adult hoping for a luxurious life with millions of the greens to spare. But if hope becomes the very thread one holds on to to survive tragedies in one's life, then the question arises - would it be strong enough or would it snap?
Anyway, registered for the basic theory test for driving yesterday. The first step to attaining a driving license. Seems like a rather long process. Am quite excited for what's to follow, actually. =) That's about it for now. Cheers!

A random thought. Ever wondered why only the most annoying and irritating songs get stuck in your head? First tokyo drift and now fergalicious. God help me.
Senior Dinner and Dance was pretty alright. The company was lovely, of course. However, the food was served in miniscule portions. I cannot help but comment that the more high-classed a restaurant or hotel gets, the smaller the food portions become. This being the Ritz Carlton, it was no exception of course. Haha. I guess it is a fact we all have to accept.
memories to last a life-time. =)

It's over! Alas! For now, I shall just keep my fingers crossed in preparation for the final revelation in March next year. It STILL has not quite registered that JC is over. But one thing's for sure. My JC life was in one word, beautiful.
Somehow, being 18 does not seem any different. True, I am qualified to watch M18 movies, consume alcohol, club (not that I'd do any of those) and hit the road with an L plate, but that's that. I would like to thank everyone who made that day special. Thanks all of you who wished me. Thanks Charmaine, Christl, Stella, Liling, Chan, Enjie and Geraldine for the wonderful presents and ChuaH and Alon for the cake. I truly appreciate all that. Lastly, thanks to all my darling friends. Love you guys!
Anyway, watched step up on thursday. Really nice show. If only I could dance that way. Unfortunately, I have two left feet. Okay, I'm not THAT bad. But bad enough. Haha. Did loads of shopping, or rather window shopping thereafter. (Ever wondered why they call it 'window' shopping?). Had dinner at Billy Bombers with my classmates after that. The ambience there is wonderful. The whole retro feel. I felt like looting them of an extremely comfortable golden seat. Oh and we had drinks on the house =). It looked like champagne at first sight. And each of us had like 3 drinks each. Glass of plain water, a drink with the set meal and the drink which was on the house. Goodness gracious me. Nature's call was answered multiple times, of course. Haha.
Alright, that's about it for now. Cheers! =)

5 more days. Oh just 5 more days to sweet freedom!

And so it begins. One by one they come dressed in black and white. Some rather deceiving. Others relatively cunning. They come in armies of fonts. Large fonts. Small fonts. Medium sized fonts. Fonts, nevertheless. They can potentially increase your heartbeat or your rate of respiration upon being examined. Within a particular timespan one has to generate an entire army of one's own fonts with ink. And then these armies get flown abroad to be examined by British men. One then prays that one's armies are sufficiently armed to emerge victorious prior to the combat.Okay, I just typed a whole load of gibberish. Haha. I shall now type in english. Anyway, the papers have been okay at parts and not so okay at others, in brief. Am just hoping for the best, as is every j2. Well, 7 more papers to go. Best of luck to every j2 for the rest of the papers!By the way, Michael Scofield is so hot. =]

17 more days. What?! 17 more days?? Okay, it just hit me, after typing the first few words. Denial, some people call it. It seems as though I've lost track of day and time and am simply stumbling along a continuous underground tunnel. The other end, that leads to gound level (or freedom) resembles a tiny speck of light, scarcely enough to illuminate the tunnel. Hmm.Oh well. Gloomy talk has gotten no one anywhere. On a positive note, the fruits of perseverance are saturated with monosaccharides (or sweet), more often than not. =]Anyway, last Friday concluded the last official day for us J2s. The Farewell Assembly was really a touching one. It feels as though the 2 years flew by just like that. That may sound cliche, but it is undeniably true. There are multitudes of things that I treasure deeply about VJ, and one of them is definitely OSSIS. It would have never been the same without these wonderful people. Love you guys! Alright, that's it for now. Cheers! =]

The prelims are over. Rejoice, we shall. But for a limited period of time. Limited or not, it is a period of time to savour. =]I have no idea why, but I have developed green fingers all of a sudden. No no, it is not a fungal infection. No need to gasp. Haha. Have taken to gardening as of late. Something I would not have even dreamt of doing some time back. Perhaps it has a therapeutic nature. Hmm. But surely, it does wonders to frown lines on your forehead (if you have any). In some unfathomable way, it has similar effects to aroma therapy. Try it!Anyway, watched The Devil Wears Prada yesterday with my classmates. Quite an interesting movie, I should say. Had wonderful pasta thereafter and went window shopping. Boy were we drained after that. It is most definitely a form of calorie burning activity. I'm in love with Shane Ward's voice. One blessed day, I shall have a duet with him (dreaming eventually leads to achieving). Haha. Anyway, that's about it for now. Cheers!

The time has arrived when almost every jc2 student is either buried in notes or is at the brink of being in that state. It has come to the point that every single moment has become crucial to these unfortunate beings, including me. It feels as though time is flying by and yet crawling by. However ironic that may sound. The time we get to stop and smell the flowers (be they pin or thrum flowers), has become almost negligible. Oh well. Anyway, I believe the fruits of perseverance are indeed sweet and rewarding. May god bless everyone with the strength to pull through this trying period.

I have not updated my blog in what seems like ages. Perhaps the lack of inspiration is to be blamed. That, coupled with the lack of time. It seems as though when you yearn for time to slow down just a bit, it whisks by. And when you wish for the days to fly by, they move at snails' pace. Does life naturally adopt a negative feedback mechanism or something? It surely seems like it. What is success? It is a toy balloon among children armed with pins. ~Gene Fowler

Just felt like dedicating a post to my grandma, so here goes. I love my grandma. Every single thing about her. Her pinchable cheeks, her flabby arms (which prove to be a source of entertainment at times. Think along the lines of oscillations.), her warm smile, the twinkle in her eyes, the way she laughs and the list goes on. =] The other day, I was watching one of the repeat telecasts of france vs portugal and she happened to be sitting next to me. She actually got engrossed in the game and started making comments like "that man ought to be removed from the field", in Gujarati. Haha. I was taken by surprise, no doubt. Is my grandma funky or what? She explained that back when they did not show hindi serials on the tv, soccer was one of the few entertaining programmes. Hmm. Nevertheless, she's so cute and I treasure her deeply. That's it for now. Cheers!

Everything started tumbling and crumbling one by one. Spain lost. The papers were killers. What next? People often talk about how problems are just bumps in the road of life. But some are boulders more likely.

The world cup fever is on! =] I just hope Spain makes it to at least the semis. I have never really paid much interest to soccer all these years. But I feel like an ardent fan now. Maybe this sudden liking was triggered by vj's victory. Hmm.
By the way, I cannot quite fathom why some people tie in soccer with machismo. I refer to the article in the Sunday newspaper - 'Spare us guys your shrieks'. I think there were a hundred and one sweeping statements in that obviously gender-biased article. According to the author only 5% of the women who watch soccer actually know what they're watching. 70% know nothing and cannot tell Michael Owen from Owen Wilson. Hah. Right. Okay, perhaps there are people like these out there, but 70% is a little over the hedge. I'm sure many will concede to that. If men can be shopping addicts, women can by all means be soccer fans!

Am back from Japan! Arrived on Saturday at close to midnight, actually. Home sweet home. Now that I am back, some part of me misses Japan. The climate right down to the people. I have to admit though, that I am far from a fan of Japanese food, especially raw foodstuff.
Day 1
Arrived in Osaka, Japan at Kansai International Airport. This airport has apparently been built on a soft seabed and is surrounded by water bodies. It is believed that this airport sinks by less than an inch every year. Thereafter, we collected our luggage and travelled to Kobe in the tour bus. I am in love with the climate over there in Japan. It seems as though one is perpetually in an air-conditioned room in spite of it being sunny. Occasionally there would be cool gusts of wind. The temperature varies between 19 and about 27 degrees. Anyway, we travelled on the highway, past various manufacturing firms and residential areas, with mountains in the background. It is in Japan that one can find both natural beauty and highly industrialised areas existing side-by-side.
Upon arriving in Kobe, we visited the Great Hanshin Earthquake memorial institution, where we learnt of the disastrous effects of one of the most major earthquakes to have ever struck Japan. From there, we enjoyed a mini-cruise ride from Kobe Port Tower to Kobe Port. The view from the cruise was magnificent. After the cruise ride, we did some shopping, had lunch and then travelled to Kobe Fruit and Flower Park hotel, where we were to stay overnight. We had to sleep on a traditional Japanese mat. It was quite an experience. I think Sukiyaki is one of the best Japanese meals yet. We had that for dinner.

Day 2
We travelled from Kobe to Nara for the exchange program with Tezukayama High school. Upon arriving at the school which was located in a relatively hilly area, we were greeted warmly by the students. Even the students who were not involved in the exchange program started clapping as we walked past. Not knowing how to react, we merely smiled politely. Our performance went relatively well, in my persepective. When it was their turn to perform for us and the other non-vj spectators, we were completely stunned by their skills. Apparently, the school's Mandolin guitar ensemble is more of a passion that a CCA, because the members practise on a daily basis. We were extrem
ely impressed by how the ensemble presented itself and by how coordinated they were. I realised that the Japanese give a lot of emphasis to the presentation of food. Every meal comprises foodstuff in vibrant colours and designs. After lunch, we headed to Nara Deer Park with the students of Tezukayama High School. Over there, we got to see white deers and various ancient temples. In the evening, we went on a shopping spree at a ¥100 shop and many others. ¥100 is approxim
ately equivalent to $1.40 and is comparable to the $1 shop in Singapore.
Did you know that the Japanese even teach math on national television? I have photos to prove it. No wonder their economy is soaring!
Day 3
The bed at Righa Royal Hotel was so comfortable that my friends and I myself found it a challenge to drag myself out of bed. After the breakfast buffet, we headed down to Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan by bus. It is the Japanese equivalent of the underwater world in Sentosa apart from the absence of travelators and the fact that it houses a much wider variety of organisms. These include, seals, walruses, porcupine fishes, squirrel monkeys, iguanas, penguins, dolphins, angelfishes, giant spider crabs, ratfishes, a whale sha
rk, gigantic stingrays an
d many others. After lunch, we travelled from Osaka to Kyoto and visited Heian Shrine, Kiyomizu temple and Gion street, where we got a glimpse of geisha and meiko houses. Meikos are younger geishas, or geishas in the training. I managed to take a snap of the closest one can get to a meiko, on th
e street.
This was the day we experienced for ourselves what a major traffic jam in Japan is like. Our travelling time got delayed by a grand total of 2 hours. But it did not matter because we kept ourselves entertained in the tour bus. Upon arriving at the hotel, while many went straight to bed, the year 2 girls gathered in my room and we talked till the wee hours of the morning.
Day 4
We had the usual breakfast buffet in the morning. Being the typical Singaporeans that we are, we decided to 'tapau' some of the croissants and breads. They did come in handy later on in the day. From the hotel, we headed straight to the Universal Studios in Osaka, a 20 min ride by bus from our hotel. The day we spent over here was undoubtedly memorable. Everything seemed perfect and exactly the same as the actual Universal Studios, apart from the fact that everything was dubbed in Japanese! For instance, we watched the termi
nator and even ET talking in Japanese. Quite a sight, that was. Apart from the language barrier, if I were to say that the rides were fantastic, that would be an understatement.
After the full day at the Universal Studios, we headed down to World Trade Centre, which is apparently one of the tallest skyscrappers in Japan. We had a western-style buffet dinner at the 50-somethingth storey.
D
ay 5
We booked out of Righa Royal Hotel and sent off our check-in luggage to the airport, after which we travelled by bullet train (left) to one of the major shopping districts in Japan. Over there, we split into smaller groups to do our last-minute shopping. As usual, we kept on the look-out for a ¥100 shop outlet, which we found. We spotted Takashimaya as well, but we knew better than to enter a place like that. I made another realization
- that most Japanese guys have long hair and have feminine looks. Most are relatively vain as well. My room mate and I spotted 3 Japanese guys turning simultaneously to examine their complexion in a mirror outside a shop. Quite am
using.
After shopping, we had ramen at a Japanese restaurant where we were supposed to sit on a raised platform. As we had some time thereafter, we carried on with our shopping until it was time to travel to Kansai International Airport in the first-class compartment of a bullet train, which comprised velvet seats. Did some more last-minute shopping to spend off our coins before boarding the plane for Singapore.
Overall, I thoroughly relished my stay in Japan. It is definitely an experince which has become embedded in my memory for many years to come. Most of all, I admire the level of discipline and maturity the Japanese society showcases. If you think Singapore is litter free, have a look at the streets in Japan. They are literally spot-free. The irony of it all is that dustbins are so scarce over there. Perhaps one can be spotted after every 500m. Also, cigarettes and beer cans are sold in vending machines and yet most youngsters do not seem to abuse this system. Politeness seems to be the Japanese people's middle name. They apologize profusely even for having accidentally brushed into you, for instance. Even people who do not know you personally smile at you. Shop owners do not follow you around and breathe down your neck like most shop owners in Singapore. I think Singaporeans can definitely learn a thing or two from the behavioral practices of the Japanese. This trip has indeed been a wonderful and enlightening one. =]

Went for X-men yesterday with my family. I would have to say I was relatively disappointed with the movie. Definitely not worth the cost of a movie ticket on a Sunday evening X 4 + the cost of popcorn, of course. Anyway, I think my mom's a close-to-perfect example of a typical Indian. Haha. After the movie, there was half a tub of popcorn left, so she 'tapau'-ed it home. =]All that aside, I will be flying to Japan tomorrow for an exchange programme cum tour. As such, I would be uncontactable till the 3rd of June. Unless of course, someone does not mind accumulating insane calling charges on one's phone and hence tries to contact me at the hotel itself. Alright, that's about it for now. Till next time, cheers! =]

So much for a full day off. Ended up packing and wrapping the guitars till rather late, in preparation for the Japan trip. It was more like a full day ON instead. Oh well. But I am ecstatic about the trip, as I mentioned earlier. =]VJ soccer guys won the finals (against MJ)!! 4-2! Which is undoubtedly impressive, especially since 3 goals were scored within the span of 15 mins. It was a miracle, indeed. My voice is on the brink of turning raspy after all that cheering. Haha. Oh and the soccer girls' team won too! 2-0 (against TJ). Am utterly proud of them. Emerging victorious after being declared last a year back is a gargantuan achievement in itself. Truly inspirational, I would say.Oh and I miss the languor of a siesta on a hot afternoon.

Much has transpired since I last updated my blog. Spring cleaning of my blog is due. First and foremost, the guitar concert went reasonably well. To all those who came down to support me, gracias! None of your support and well wishes were gone unappreciated. Thanks OSSIS for the card! I love you guys.
Sunday was rather eventful. Shook Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan's hand and spoke to Singapore's minister for defence! It was quite a brief conversation, but a conversation nevertheless. I felt like a VIP at that point in time. =]
Oh and the Japan trip is around the corner. Am utterly thrilled! =] I just realised how particular the Japanese are about certain things. Sitting cross-legged on the floor is unacceptable for females. Shoes must be placed at a particular angle to the door. Bowing is a necessity. Gifts cannot be exchanged in odd numbers or the number 4. The list goes on. Anyway, I can hardly contain my excitement!
Joke of the day, courtesy of Mr. Teo:
If one were to go on a movie marathon overnight and watch the movies Dark Water, The Eye and The Ring consecutively, one would rise in the morning and scream upon seeing one's reflection in the mirror. Why so? Because of the Dark Eye Rings around his/her eyes! Utterly lame, I know. But hilarious, nevertheless. Haha. Hit your forehead, if you must.
Anyway, that's it for now. Syonara! (in preparation for the Japan trip) =]

I feel broken. Am aching all over. A consequence of doing napfa in spite of having been hit by the influenza virus. Ah well. SBJ ought to be abolished! I know I have mentioned this a gabazillion times, but I shall just mention that once more. It was never, is not, and shall never be of any importance in our lifes.Just a random thought. What if there were delivery tubes running throughout Singapore, underground, alongside telephone lines? When one needs to send a parcel, let's say, a nail file or something, to someone at the other end of Singapore, all one would have to do is drop it into the particular tube leading to his or her house directly. He or she would then receive it in a matter of seconds. Oh and there would be a reference book like the yellow pages, so one would know which tube to drop stuff into. Hmm. Worth a shot, I would say. =]Oh and I think Vin Diesel is the hottest bald man I have seen by far. Haha. Lex luthor from Smallville is pretty commendable too, but not at par with Vin Diesel. Whoever says bald men cannot look ravishing? Besides, you can save a whole load of cash too! By the way, Steven Gerrard is pretty cute. Alright, that's it for now. Cheers! =]

I feel internally polluted right now. First came a heavy dose of oil and shortly after, a heavy dose of sugar. Haha. Well, we had a half day today. And to avoid getting fined (according to the vp) for staying on college grounds after 12 (vj is to be used as a polling centre), and to satisfy our hunger, we rushed out with our 'turtles' drawn. Town, it was.Fried mars bars are glorious! I think each of us gained at least about 5000 calories today, in the time span of an hour. Not a good idea to do so before napfa. Not. At. All. Haha. I await the release of X3 =]. Alright, that's it for now. Cheers!

I think Pickles (shown above) is rather hilarious. But nothing beats The Far Side collection by Gary Larson. His cognitive abilities are one of a kind. That is for sure. Anyway, that's it for now. Shall keep this post short. Peace.

Women face such high expectations from society. Not only do they have to balance their work and households, they have to meet certain behavioral standards as well. Apparently which part of the upper limb one holds one's bag at determines where the bus stops, for instance. Oh ya, and one has to ascend steps at a certain angle. No more. No less. Hmm. This could potentially be a reason for turning up late for tutorials though. Especially those at the fourth storey. Haha.Too many commitments and a measly amount of time. This sole sentence is a relatively accurate description of my state at this point in time. This, I feel, is not about to change anytime soon. Therefore, perseverance is the way to go. And I shall emerge victorious over all odds. When a single door closes shut in life, many others become ajar. Anyway, that's about it for now. Cheers! =]

Because of you

Because of you

Because of you
I find it hard to trust not only me, but everyone around me
Because of you
